Created for such a time as this

In an earlier post I asked you to pull together a list of people that are in your life, and then take a week to pray and ask God to give you the eyes to see, ears to hear, and the heart to respond to the Holy Spirit's leading and see who He has placed in your life and who you might be missing.

Did your list grow?

Who did God let you notice that you didn't notice before?

What now?

I am amazed that God came and lived among us.  As a matter of fact, the whole Bible tells the story of God pursuing us.  God is a relational God, and I believe that since we are created in God's image, we too are relational beings.

We are created to be in relationship with God, and with each other.  As disciplemakers, we are invited to come and follow Jesus, in mutual community with God and each other, and help others to take next steps with Jesus.

We also have been created now, and placed right where we are at today.  That was intentional.  And, if God knows all of our days, and has prepared good works in advance for us to do...who does God want us to connect with and how should that happen?

I believe that ministry occurs in the context of relationship, and since God has begun to show you people in your life that you didn't notice before...how do you intentionally come alongside and help them to take next steps with Jesus to the place that they can do the same with their friends, and so on, and so on....?

Well, keep a fresh walk with Jesus.  You don't need any more Eric splashing off of me, you need more Jesus splashing off of me.  It's the overflow of my relationship with Jesus that makes the difference.

Prayerfully and intentionally seek God, and see how God asks you to follow Him in this adventure.  Jesus has invited us to come and follow Him, not the other way around.  Find ways to eat together, play together, serve together.  Find ways to build relationship with them.  Get to know their name.  Spend time with them.  Even if its the Barista at Starbucks, say "hello" and greet them kindly.  Initiate conversation, and see how they are doing.  Prayerfully, and intentionally lean in, and wait for God to open a God-door.

What's a God-door?  An opportunity to share, to pray, to serve, or to let them do the same for you.

It is such a blessing to know that it is God who changes hearts, not us.  It's His job to shape us like Him, to speak life into our dead hearts, and to give us faith.  We are blessed to be able to walk with, so intentionally, and in mutual community with Jesus, with others--take next steps with Jesus. Trusting that God will show up, and do great big God things.

Pray for the God-Risk Compassionate-Courage to obey God's leading, and see where God might take us next.

Eric
